Fracture and damage tend to originate primarily at the material's surface. Therefore, the surface modification is an effective approach to enhancing the overall performance of materials. Improving resistance to fracture and damage enables the miniaturization and weight reduction of components used in various transportation systems, thereby contributing to the realization of a decarbonized society. In this research, we explore novel concepts for microstructural control of materials and strive to develop multifunctional materials that exhibit multiple superior properties.
