We investigate biogeochemical cycling across the continuum from terrestrial environments to coastal oceans, with a particular focus on the dynamics of carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and silicon. In recent years, these cycles have been substantially altered by human activities, highlighting the importance of understanding the impacts of processes such as wastewater discharge and land-use change on aquatic environments. Our research aims to elucidate how anthropogenic inputs interact with natural biogeochemical processes and how these interactions influence the transport and transformation of materials. Our field observations span a wide range of environments, including oceans, lakes, rivers, seagrass and macroalgal beds, and wastewater treatment plants, all of which play important roles in carbon fixation and greenhouse gas dynamics.
